28 Piano Pieces by Children for Children

Take it away retailer Markson Pianos recently told us about a fantastic new book that their composer in residence, Lola Perrin, had put together. '28 Piano Pieces by Children for Children' has brought together young Londoners to produce a book of music for other young people to play.

As well as being a great idea the book is also in aid of a good cause, with all profits being donated to the UK charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

The book gave the children involved the opportunity to have an active role in not only composing the pieces, but also making edits, adding finger numbering and creating illustrations. They even got to decide what the cover should look like and in what order the pieces would appear in the finished book.

The book has been put together on the basis that young musicians become particularly enthusiastic to explore new music when they realise it's been composed by their peers. With fun and varied pieces to learn, the book also helps develop children's sight reading skills.

The book launched on 30 November 2012 with a concert at The Vortex in London. The book is now on sale exclusively through online shop Olive Loves Alfie.

The book is a bargain at 10 and is a great way to introduce young musicians to new music. Maybe it will even encourage them to have a go at composing themselves? For more information about the book check out the 28 Piano Pieces by Children for Children Facebook page for more information or check out some of the pieces on their Vimeo page.
